From the April 27 NYC CGC (Community Garden Coalition) Annual “Stand for our Land” event


NYC CGC grew out of the 1990s when community volunteers had to learn, practically overnight, on how organize, lobby, and defend their gardens from real estate developers. What began as a collection of community members of two decades ago has grown to become a collection of community gardens, well organized, strong, and representative of the five boroughs. They also made reference to Pete Seeger and Bette Midler who have supported the gardens and organizations that support the gardens. Continue reading

Big Weekend on West 123rd Street – August 26/27, 2012

Hello everyone!

This weekend is full of action for west 123rd street and we invite all our neighbors to join in the fun:

  • Saturday, August 25, 12:00 – 6:00pm Annual Youth Day Block Party Rides, games, activities, music and BBQ for everyone in the neighborhood. Last year there were pony rides so who knows what kind of fun is in store this time around!
    • VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Lamont Alston and the 123 YP will be doing a big block clean up starting at 9am on Saturday morning; if you are able to help out, please find Lamont on the block on Saturday morning
  • Sunday, August 26, 11:00am – 5:00pm Ephesus Church Annual Health Fair Your health is the most important thing you have, so come by Ephesus Church on Sunday to make sure you’re in tip top shape!  Free mammograms, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, as well as fitness and nutrition information will be available.
Please remember that there will be no parking on the street either day and cars will be ticketed and towed.

Halloween in the Garden – Sunday, October 30 2- 5pm

The New West 123rd Street Block Association and The 123 Youth Program are hosting trick or treating in the garden again this year!  We’ll be having a Spooky Spelling Bee, poetry reading and creepy Costume Catwalk (children must be in costumes to do the catwalk and extra “points” will be awarded for acting out their character!) with prizes awarded to winners of each event.

All are welcome!

Youth Day – August 28 @ Noon

Come out and join us for Youth Day on Sunday, August 28th beginning at noon on west 123rd street.  This year promises to be better than ever with pony rides, a bouncing castle, a spelling bee and fashion show.  Prizes galore!  Food and beverages will be served and music from our local DJs.

3rd Annual MMPCIA Holiday Gala – Tuesday, December 7, 7-10pm

On Tuesday, December 7th, the Mount Morris Park Community Improvement Association holds its 3rd Annual Holiday Gala & Fundraiser. Neighbors and friends are warmly invited to gather and kick off the holiday season with festivities, food, music and dancing—and support the community by placing bids at the Silent Auction.
